Foundry Langley

In July 2022, Foundry Langley opened its doors to youth age 12-24 and to a community of adults looking to support youth in their life. This is in great part to the LMHF donors who generously gave $2.1 million collectively to ensure the centre could open.

And just in time.

A 2018 BC Adolescent Health Fraser South survey revealed that 47 per cent of students surveyed said they needed mental health services but, frustrated by bureaucracy, they were likely to abandon the search for help altogether.

Coupled with the mental health impact of the disruptions of COVID-19 pandemic, these numbers caused great concern among Langley’s medical staff and support workers and drove a partnership that led to Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation’s involvement in fundraising for Foundry Langley.

Within the first three months of operation, Foundry Langley already served more than 200 young people and their family members.

Foundry Langley recorded 118 visits for mental health services, and 62 young people found options through peer support programs.

Many young people drop in for cooking, life skills training, and assistance in their search for work or a safe place to live.

A New Martini Family Emergency Centre

As of May 2021, staff are now providing care in a space built to meet the needs of modern health care practices and equipment, and it's important that we all - hospital staff, patients and their families, and you our incredible supporters - take a moment to celebrate how our collective actions and drive for local health care improvements made this great centre a reality.

We’re pleased to share with you our newest newsletter, created specially for this milestone. For this commemorative issue, we interviewed ER physician, Dr. Willem DeVynck to learn what staff are enjoying most about the new space; Dr. Navjot Sandhu to understand how the pediatric space is improving the hospital experience for our youngest patients; and Medical Imaging site medical director Tammy Karoway on how the MRI Suite has expanded the hospital's ability to diagnosis and in fact expanded specialized diagnostics beyond what was originally expected.

We hope you enjoy this read and take pride in how you've transformed care at Langley Memorial Hospital.
