Dawn Letourneau remembers it clearly.
It was 2017, and she'd been caring for her husband Steve during his brave fight with colon cancer - a diagnosis that had consumed their lives for years.
After a long career as a nurse, she knew that stress - a cause of inflammation and diseases like cancer - can kill.
Eventually, she managed to secure an appointment for a colonoscopy at Langley Memorial Hospital with surgical specialist Dr. Scott Cowie, who found and removed three polyps, which hold the potential to turn cancerous over time. After screenings over the next two years, Dr. Cowie removed even more.
"I'm still so grateful for the work of Dr. Cowie and his staff," she says. "And I know they can only do their work well when they have the best, most advanced tools available."
Monthly donors make a difference
Small, regular donations give the hospital stable, predictable funding to replace and upgrade the essential equipment caregivers need to detect and eliminate early signs of cancer.
As Dawn learned through her own treatments with Dr. Cowie, early screening, diagnosis and treatment with the right tools at the right time, will allow patients to recover quickly and resume their healthy lives.
Langley is growing rapidly, so it's ever-important that cancer diagnosis and treatments grow and change to meet the pace of population growth.
As a monthly donor, you can be a part of this change. You'll be equipping the hospital with the state-of-the-art technology that helps provide excellent diagnosis and treatment.
"[Monthly donors] can make such a difference in the lives of patients like me, like Steve, and our family," Dawn says.
