Family and Community at the Root of Bath Family Foundation Generosity

The story of the Bath Family Foundation’s gift to Foundry Langley is a story of gratitude, family, and an abiding love of the community they call home.

After Amrik and Parminder Bath immigrated to Canada from India in the late 60’s, Amrik worked in a sawmill, eventually gaining enough expertise to launch his own business, Surrey Cedar. By 1995, Surrey Cedar had grown to become a global supplier of cedar fencing, roofing, and decking materials.

As the family business grew, so did the family itself. The couple raised two sons, Sam and Sunjeev, and today are proud grandparents of five – all raised in Langley.

The couple's love for their grandchildren inspired them to give to Foundry Langley, through the Bath Family Foundation, says Sam Bath, a lead in the Bath Foundation.

"Their grandchildren have had access to resources that will give them the best chance to become strong, independent adults that can make meaningful contributions to their community," he says.

In 2020, the Bath family registered the Bath Family Foundation to support various community causes focusing on youth issues and hospice care (both Langley Memorial Hospital and the Langley Hospice Society are benefactors).

The Bath Family Foundation sees how Foundry Langley will play an important role for more than 1,000 youth every year who will access services related to mental health counselling, physical health care, life skills, and more.

“The Bath Family has seen the problem [of youth mental illness] escalate, especially in the past decade. We felt it important to do our part to help the launch of this initiative," he adds.

"There could not be an initiative that is more directly aligned with our focus than Foundry Langley. Simply put, the youth are our future. An investment in our youth is an investment in our community.”
