COVID-19 Update from Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation:

I’m sure you’ve been closely following the news regarding the current global pandemic we are facing. It’s truly a situation unlike anything else we have experienced.

This has of course put a strain on all hospitals in the Fraser Valley, Province of BC, Canada, and the world as a whole. But health care workers have never waivered in their commitment. They have continued to provide the best care possible for every patient who comes through the doors.

There are also many other critical pieces of equipment that will help in our care for patients impacted by COVID-19, and ensure we are better prepared if anything like this ever happens again. They include:

  • Three new nebulizers which cost $210 each. They are used to deliver medication in the form of mist, inhaled into the lungs. Used for treatment of cystic fibrosis, asthma, COPD and other respiratory diseases or disorders.
  • Our Emergency Department has an urgent need for a new Optiflow System, which costs $3,900. The system provides important respiratory support, airway hydration and improves patient comfort and helps provide supplemental oxygen.
  • Additionally there is an urgent need to replace five outdated life support ventilators in the critical care unit. These keep oxygen flowing throughout the body by pushing air into the lungs. They’re used temporarily for conditions like pneumonia, but it may be needed longer for someone with lung failure. Each unit costs $58,000 and will help to support the more than 1,600 respiratory patients we see every year.

I know this might seem like a lot. Especially at a time when your personal finances may already be stretched thin. If you’re unable to make a donation today for any reason, I completely understand.

But if you’re able to, I hope you will support your local hospital with a donation today.

Your generosity will help ensure we make it through this current crisis and will help us deliver better care in the future if you or a loved one ever need us.

Wishing you, your family, and all those close to you all the best during this difficult time.

Sincerely,
