As an active, athletic youngster, Larry Swart had more than his share of spills and learned to rely on the care provided at Langley Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department unit.

Years later and grown up with his own family, Larry visited Langley Memorial once again for a shoulder surgery that changed his life.

“Before the operation, I couldn’t lift my arms over my head,” he said. “I went swimming with my daughter, and I couldn’t move fast enough to help her when she got into trouble. It was scary. But now I can swim like a fish.”

As a boy, I was in the Langley emergency room with a broken arm and appendicitis. My sister gave birth to all four of her children here. They took care of my mom after a terrible car accident and my dad has had long stays in extended care.

Not once have I felt like just another patient here. The staff are always genuine in their concern for me and my family. There is an overall sense of relief that we will be well taken care of here.
What would we do without this hospital? They have been – and will continue to be – here for us every step of the way."

To honour the care he and his family have relied on over the years, Larry and his business partners are giving back through his local company.

“Supporting your local hospital is something that will benefit you down the road, without a doubt. With all the programs and services they have in place at Langley Memorial, every dollar helps. Sometimes you don’t realize that reality until you need care – or someone in your family needs it.”
