There are few people in Langley who do not know the name Iris Mooney. Iris spent most of her 38-year nursing career at Langley Memorial as the maternity ward head nurse where she ushered over 20,000 babies into the world.
As the first woman ever elected to Langley City Council, Iris strengthened her reputation as a caring community member.
Iris was a remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on our hospital and community.
Although Iris passed away on July 19, 2017 at 91 years old, her legacy lives on thanks to a nursing grant, funded through generous donations made to Langley Memorial Hospital Foundation in Iris’ memory.
The Iris Mooney Excellence in Maternity Nursing Grant provides an annual grant, of up to $1,000, to support maternity staff at Langley Memorial access innovative learning and research opportunities.
Ongoing clinical education helps nurses enhance their skills and keeps them on the leading edge of change.
Iris would be proud of the legacy her name is creating for her community and the profession she cherished.
