As we move into the holiday season, and turn our attention to giving and small, safe gathering with loved ones, I’m delighted to take a moment to thank you - our family of hospital supporters.

I've been with the Foundation since May, so am still getting to know many of you, but what I do know of Langley donors, is that you are generous and have big hearts.

Your support of this hospital means you care about first-class health care in your community. I'm so honoured to be able to work for you and put your donations to work, improving health care for you and your loved ones.

As you know too well since COVID-19 hit BC, everything has changed: how we work, where we work, where we go. No one knows when the pandemic might end. But the best medical advice is that it will not be for some time.

That’s why I want you to know that your hospital is there for you – because quality health care is more important than ever.

As we approach the end of the year, I hope you’ll consider making a special gift to help the hospital buy essential equipment. The people who benefit will be you, your friends and your neighbours.

I’ll tell you about a couple of critically needed items. But first, let me tell you one positive story of how donors made a difference earlier this year.

Donors like you stepped up big-time. Patients suffering from chronic pain from illness or traumatic accidents couldn’t be treated at the hospital while we created new processes to keep everyone safe amid the pandemic. Now the clinic is running with a new special ultrasound - bought by our kind donors, people like you. It helps the team work faster through the waitlist. This reduces a lot of pain.

Clinic director Dr. Wu has a message for our generous donors. “We can’t emphasize enough how much the portable ultrasound was needed, but I know we can say enough about how much it is appreciated. It’s great for us and even greater for patients. It will reduce the number of people on the waitlist.”

As you can see, it thrills both patients and health care workers when they get the tools for better care. Today I’m hoping you’ll make a donation to help with critical needs. Here are two:

  • Emergency Room ventilators: The first line of defence for emergencies, including COVID-19 patients arriving by ambulance. Our team needs modern ventilators and equipment to safely intubate patients in respiratory distress.
  • Long Term Care: Our care teams are learning new ways to better connect our fragile elders in residence with their loved ones while keeping them safe under strict patient visit restrictions. New technology – such as video chats made possible through donor-funded iPads - will allow the care team to help these people stay engaged and see their family and friends.

If you’re like me I’m sure you have a newfound respect for health care workers. You probably feel that they are even more essential than ever. When you give them the tools to do a better job, it saves lives and heals patients faster.

Today, we need to raise $50,625 to purchase critical equipment throughout the hospital. To ensure we are prepared this winter. Your donation, joined with other generous supporters, can help us buy everything we need. This will mean better care, and shorter waits for all patients. And it will ensure that elderly patients can continue to connect with their loved ones and caregivers.

When you make a gift today, please consider becoming a monthly donor. Many donors choose to make a small gift each month, but it adds up to make a great impact over the year. And every dollar provides better care for our community. Your donation will go to priority needs. Thank you in advance for whatever you can give today.

P.S.    My warmest wishes this holiday season. And remember, your generous donation will help get patients home faster so they can spend time with their loved ones. I know they will be grateful for that as well. Thank you!
